Oh, no, That’s not what I meant at all! I just, I’ve never, It’s less common, no? Or if not less common, less talk about, right? She struggled to say the right thing, I never said you were unfaithful or a poly-gimist, Whatever that is she said, blushing and feeling awkward.
When he mentioned only having eyes for Danny, Katie couldn’t help but feel a little jealous. She was used to people only having eyes for her and it annoyed her that Tim seemed to be immune to her many charms. That Sedlacek guy is terrifying. I personally don’t think he has anything right. Katie snapped as an involuntary shiver ran down her spin at the mention of Sedlacek. He bit me. On my neck. It was really scary, you can still see the cut! she whined and pulled her hair back to revile the little nick. He’s creepy she added and how can you like him after what he did to you? That look really painful Katie said, referring to Sedlacek’s attack on Sundin.
what are you talking about? Of course you can get out. Katie said, her voice lilting higher as if she was talking to an extremely stupid child, You just did, sweetheart

"Okay. Okay. So maybe I do the multiple partners thing--" he added in another laugh, "but, not without asking." Then, a grin broke free and he cracked up. "I'm just teasing with you, Babe. Point being: I'm really not such a bad guy when you reach deep . . . deep . . . waaaaaaay deep down inside. So, no matter what happens, I promise I won't do anything weird to you like Sedlacek does." He paused, and grimaced as he listened to the story. "He bit you? Why?" He gave a strange off-wards glance and shook his head. "Ah, I'm used to it. Between Sedlacek and Danny I stay with bruises. But, if I really, really wanted it to stop; well, I'd just take a whack at them . . . Danny, at least."
"I can't say I like that guy; but, I'm used to him. He's kinda like . . . he's kinda like a natural predator, you know? He's inevitable. He just . . . is the way he is and he can't really help it. So, you just do whatever you can to protect yourself from him. -- Oh, and try not to show him any fear. He loves that. See . . . he doesn't get that the stuff he does really hurts. He just thinks you're overreacting and finds it funny. Kind of like a little kid pulling his sister's hair and not stopping even when she screams. Does that make any sense?" He stopped, and took a look at the bite marks. "Do you think you need antiseptic while I'm up?"
He stood, grinned, and nodded, considering what she'd said as though there was something more behind it. "You're right. I did just get out, didn't I? Hm. . . ."

Oh I believe you, I think you’re a pretty decent person so far, and I’m glad you won’t turn into Sedlacek. She paused, took a deep breath then told Sundin the story of Sedlacek’s bite. Well, I woke up from my faint being carried by him, and naturally I freaked out. Oh, before I go on: one thing you should know about me is that in most situations my first instinct is to bite. Pretty much no matter what emotion I’m feeling I bite: surprise, fear, anger, lust, whatever, so obviously I bite him as soon a I regain consciousness. He didn’t like that, and long story short it ended up with me laying on the floor, Sedlacek sitting on my stomach and him leaning down and biting me. It still gives me the creeps, I get nightmares about it Katie confessed, her hand absentmindedly rubbing the cut.
That’s a really cute personality quirk Katie said sarcastically But I don’t really get how he can think that what he did to me didn’t hurt me? she asked, genuinely confused That doesn’t really make sense Katie sighed And if he doesn’t understand pain, how did he get this job? Wouldn’t you think they’d want a kind person running this place? Katie asked innocently she looked down and muttered I’ll take over for him she looked back up and smiled no antiseptic, it happened like a week ago. I’ll be fine

"I know, right? Just adorable.-- Hold on for a sec." He disappeared into the hallway for a long moment, vague, echoing rattled coming forth, and then reappeared a little while later with an armload of diet coke. He slipped a bottle through Katie's cage. "You'd think they'd want a decent human being; but, I guess, minus all empathy, Sedlacek's got nothing better to do than climb the administrative ladder. I've watched him be charming with people. He's a terrific faker. Takes on your expression like a mirror. But, when left to his own devices . . . nothing."
He uncovered a bottle of regular coke and took that for himself. "Who knows . . . maybe there's a use for people like him somewhere. Like as an assassin. Or an assisting surgeon-- provided he's monitored. But, administration? Uh-uh. Terrible idea. No way you want to put presidency over everybody in the hands of an emotional two year old. But, unfortunately, it isn't up to me."
"I'm sorry he bit you. Not saying your biting's a bad thing. I think it's cute. But you might want to watch out with that habit. If you bite certain people in this place, they'll shoot you so full of sedatives, you'll be out for a week. You know, it might be nice if you had something handy to bite on that wouldn't hurt your teeth. And you're always welcome to bite my hand or something if you're feeling stressed out. I don't care about getting marks or anything, and I'm usually pretty clean since I have to wash up for surgery all the time."

Oh my god, I love you Katie said, quickly unscrewing the cap of the Coke and taking a greedy gulp. you’re a real life saver, you know that Tim? She smiled up at him thought the bars I have to say that it is not a comforting thought that the person running the “hotel” that I staying at would be a good assassin Katie commented, taking another huge swig of Diet Coke. She looked down at the bottle she was holding and said I think that the diet stuff tastes better, and not to mention that it has no calories. She looked back up at Tim where you aware that the average apple has roughly 40 calories? she asked, her tone suggesting that this was the most important information of the century So basically she said If you want an apple grab a diet coke! It tastes better and is less calories.
Why are you sorry he bit me? Katie asked He’s the one who should be sorry. But I wasn’t planning on going around biting random people, it’s more of a high-emotion thing. she explained and turned slightly pink It’s sort of an embarrassing thing she muttered But I’d say it’s my only vice. she smiled Other than the biting I’m pretty sure I’m perfect Katie laughed And thanks for the offer but I’m not going to use you’re hand as a stress ball. Not just yet anyhow, we’ll have to see where other relationship goes before I go biting you all helter skelter she teased him
would you mind sitting down infront of me? This is hurting my neck and I’d hate to see you back in one of those cages she said It bothers me that you have the choice to be free but you’re still in my hell with me. she said

He grinned. "Certainly, m' Dear. My pleasure. And I can't blame you. Can't say as I'm too comforted by the idea either; but, what're we to do?" He nodded his head, as if to say 'makes sense to me,' but added. "Good if you're just looking to cut out calories. Just so long as you remember good nutrition too. As a researcher, I feel obligated to tell you not to overdo it on those diet sodas. They can be really nasty for you if you don't moderate the aspartame and whatnot. And you know what they say, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away.' Heh . . . if only that were true, eh?" This was referring, vaguely, to her being captured; though, he felt a little bad for saying it lest he come off jokingly over the matter. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Health advice from the smoker."
"I'll tell you what," he said, took out a set of keys, and opened her cage door, proceeding to sit 'Indian-style' on the floor close-by. "Just if anyone comes this way, slide back in the cage and pretend to have the door shut. We really can't let anyone know I routinely let you out of holding. Wouldn't bode well for either of us."
"Well . . . hopefully, things won't be so scary you have to bite again anytime soon. Your tests came out well. I haven't heard about any plans to use you in a experiment as of late. Right now, they're just gushing over having avian DNA. Yeah, we get excited over the darnedest things. . . ."

Oh, thank you! Katie said as she slid out of her cage. She stayed half in and half out to make sure that Sundin understood that she wasn’t going to take off. She closed her eyes and stretched out flat on her stomach with her wings folded neatly on her back. So, She said I’m the only avian here? she paused and sorted ruefully I’m the only one not smart enough to fly away? she asked And now their just keeping me here… like some sort of pet. Not even experimenting on me. That seems sort of odd. By the way, what do these experiments usually entail?
Katie looked up at Sundin and smiled Hey, I just thought of another way we are similar! she said, You’ve got a bunch of piercings and I have my ears and belly button pierced! she rolled onto her side and pulled up her shirt to show off the pink rhinestone It’s pretty new, I got it for my sweet sixteen she said It hurt but I think it was worth it. My mom was the one who finally convinced my dad to let me get it. Katie chuckled, thinking of her Dad’s protests of “She’ll look like a tramp! No daughter of mine… Blah blah blah!” She tugged the shirt down again and rolled back to her stomach I’m surprised they let me keep it when I got here Katie commented and fell silent for a while, she folded her arms and rested her chin on them, thinking
Do you usually break rules like this? Katie asked It seems like an awfully dangerous thing to here, but I appreciate it.

"Only avian? No. And don't get the wrong impression about you being in the clear. As soon as they categorize you and decide what they want to do with you, they ship you straight to testing. So, really, you ought to enjoy the quiet while it lasts."
He hadn't meant to sound cold there; but, there was little other option as to how to say it. He opened his coke and took a sip of of it, wriggling some of his piercings or her, delighted, when she mentioned them. "Yeah, I like me some piercings. Especially that cute lil' navel one." He'd been about to add something else when, suddenly, without warning, something rattled the entire room.
-- He ducked for cover, pulling Katie mid-way under him. A ceiling tile broke loose, falling to rubble all around them. The lights flickered, sparked-- a flash of purple-ish lightning shot across the room, lighting everything up like a malfunctioning Christmas tree before it all went dark-- then, flashed red-- the emergency lights. An alarm system went off, and only after it had sounded a few times did Sundin lit his head.
"What the--!"
His eyes shifted leerily towards the door, which had gone on lock-down.

Why, than-Katie started to say but instead let out a surprised squeak as the room shook and Tim pull her towards him. She automatically curled up with her hands over her head, turns out that the earthquake drills did have a use. She had seen a few little earthquakes, her living in California and all, but nothing like this. The lights flashed, and Katie squeezed her eyes shut, when she opened her eyes again the room was bathed in an eerie red glow. What’s happening? she asked, her voice shaking slightly. She shifted so she was sitting, but she kept her head low, scared that something else would come and fall on her again. She heard a few surprised and scared yells from outside... What was going on?!
She was shaking from the adrenaline pounding through her viens as she reached out and grabbed Sundin’s hand Should I get back in the cage? she asked, leaning towards what used to be torture but now seemed like a safe haven. I think I will anyways… she said and quickly scooted toward the metal contraption.
What just happened? was the steady refrain in her head What happened? Was it our fault? Am I in trouble? she paused just outside the cage’s door and threw a questioning look at Sundin, Should I?

He shook his head with a look of utter confusion, shielding her until she got to the cage, and even them, he stood closeby, shoving away debris. Eventually, the shaking eased off. The alarms stopped sounding, but the red lights kept flashing on and off, making it look as though blood was boiling in the very walls.
"Stay. . . stay . . . ." he muttered, softly, making gentle hushing noises as if that would help. Finally, even the red flashing lights stopped; but, the lights didn't come back on, leaving them in an almost totally dark room. Sundin waited. No more ceiling tiles fell. He gingerly scooted to the doorway and tried the lock; but, it didn't budge. The electricity to the holding cells was off, so he couldn't punch in an emergency override code-- and it seemed the back-up generator to the area had stopped working too. Worst of all, the air filter had stopped working and there was a tiny leak-- from the falling debris-- in the air unit, meaning that if they stayed in too long without ventilating the place, they would lose good oxygen.
"We're locked in here," he said, and immediately started surveying the room for other ways out. "Aw, great. What happened?" He found a little window-- that was barred. No good. Next, he tried shaking at the loose tiles. No good. Even his secret exit wasn't working. Eventually, he found a ventilation shaft and jiggled at its boundaries, trying to loosen the bolts and tear it free.
"I don't know what's going on outside, but the air filter's leaking in here. If I can get this shaft cover free, we can probably squeeze through the other side." He tried twisting with his fingers, but they were starting to ache; so, he hopped to his feet, sprinted towards an emergency storage unit on the wall, and swiftly broke it open using his elbow. Inside were three stunning guns, eight sedative-filled bullets, five flares, one wrench, and a fire extinguisher. He shoved two of the guns and bullets into his pockets, and dashed back to the vent to work on the bolts with the wrench.

Katie bit her lip, terrified, but she felt stupid hiding in a corner while Sundin tried to get them out. She swung the door open and slowly got to her feet, she tried to take a step but stumbled, she had been cramped in the cage for a few hours. She steadied her self on a near by wall, took a deep breath and made her way gingerly through the rubble towards Tim. Is there anything I can do? she asked, trying to sound brave I- but she cut off, she wasn’t sure what to say or do so she stood awkwardly off to the side and quietly freaked out. She jumped when her sprang up and ran to the emergence room what is that?
She watched him working frantically on the bolts for a moment, but soon turned away to try and find a way out. She went to the Emergency unit on the wall and carefully rummaging through it, making sure Sundin didn’t over look anything. She regared the flars for a moment then, decided to take two of them, because hey, you never know. She shoved the flares into the waistband of her jeans and carefully picked her back over to Sundin and dropped her her knees beside him Any Luck? she asked, hopfully

"Almost got it."
When she returned from the emergency compartment, he stopped what he was doing. turned to her with earnest eyes, and handed her one of the stunning guns, along with two bullets.
"I let you out of the cage, so I think I can trust you with this. It'll only stun, but if something is seriously wrong out there, it'd be good for you to be able to use this." He gave her a brief visual tour of how to load it and use it using the one he'd taken for himself. "Keep it tucked away somewhere and stay close."
He wriggled the vent cover a few more times, squeezing his hands into the increasing opening. With a sharp squeak, the cover came loose. He peeked into the darkness, taking a little pen light from his pocket to search out any signs of danger in the vent shaft; but, the shaft looked clear.
"I'll go first. Yo go right behind me. I don't want you coming out of the other side first if there's trouble."
With that, he gave a few reading lurches and crawled into the shaft, and the sounds of lightly battered and warping metal told his location and progress. "Looks cool. This way."
Notes:: I'm about to open up another thread somewhere about what's going on. We can keep this thread, if you want, or we can have them popping in (lol, literally) in the other thread.
