Plot

This story takes place in an alternate version of modern-day Earth, where Earth is home to many different kinds of humanoids (e.g., every different combination of "anthro" or mix you could possibly imagine.) As humans are said to have evolved from apes, other humanoid species have evolved from other animals. The most common of the humanoid groups are mammals, though fish and insect humanoids are known to exist.

These tribes share the world in the same way that ant hills and wolves' dens share the world. They are separate, but kin, aware of each other's existence, but neither taking part in the others' society.

Humans here are much like humans in our world; however, they suffer from a characteristic frailty and have not reproduced nearly as much as they have in our world. They live in small colonies that are sealed away from wild lands by stone walls. Behind those walls, they work on their technology (technology is a prized passtime in human culture,) and study everything in hopes of "bettering" their tribes.

The humans, for the most part, were as harmless or harmful as any other tribe. Difficulty with humans usually came as a result the humans studying other humanoid species outside of arranged agreements, or when their curiosity stretched ethical boundaries. One human city, in particular, was known to violate agreements. It lie in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, covered in forests. Many many Anthros had met their deaths here.

Different humanoid species are not well integrated yet, so there is mutual fascination between the homo sapiens and the other humanoids and animals. The humans, renowned for their research (which is often loud, messy, and invasive,) are somewhat intimidating. For this reason, other species seldom cross them.

Of course, this only makes humans more hungry for research. . . .

You can play as anything-the-heck-you-want. It can be an anthro, a full animal species, a mix, a changer, a human-- whatever! If you're not a human, chances are you're either outside of human establishments completely, or you are struggling to get out/stay away from them. Sometimes, the humans will send agents out to study you in the forest. Be wary of them. Although frail and cautious by nature, human cities have a lot of tricks up their sleeves. But, don't worry... You have skill and the rest of nature on your side.

A Land of Struggle...

People from five different countries struggle each day. The powerful want to stay in command and keep their good fortunes. The rest fight to survive day by day.

A Land of the Magic...

In Shayz'renth, there's great power over the elements: shadow, light, fire, water, wind, and earth, but it can only be granted only by the Sages that rule them. Each day brings another theft, another murder, and another noble feigning ignorance. Every day a person must chose between what is right and what is wrong.

A Land of Barrenness...

In Kolshtak, the desert brings little to those who live in it. Communities form around sources of water, depending on them for survival. It is from this country that the gypsies were born, clans that formed generations ago to survive.

A Land of the Nature...

Governed by elves, Manti strives to be the most beautiful country. Still recovering from a civil war, they are enjoying peaceful times again. Some within are not so well off though. While some cities are rich with beauty and life, other cities are struggling each day.

A Land of the Trade...

It's not easy to be a landlocked country, and Lalan'ay would agree. What they cannot get from the ocean, they make up for in hard work and patience. They reach out to make trades routes with the countries around them.

A Land of the Chaos...

Pyroose has no central government. Their frozen lands are littered with hundreds of clans. Most of the people stay in the forested mountains. It is the most violent of the five countries. The people often prey on each other. Those born within are unlikely to ever see adulthood, and the brave travelers who visit have a tendency to disappear.

LOS ANGELES

A historic city, full of people. Actors, waiters, CEO’s, artists, heroes, villains. Living together, separate, at one, at none. City of lights, smog, Theater capital this side of the Mississippi. People from all over come to experience the cuisine, the art, the music, the sights, the sounds, the smells.
Yeah the sun is high. All the angels sing.

[image] [image] [image]

DR. HORRIBLE

A young aspiring villain by the name of Doctor Horrible sits in his lab, tinkering away at some unknown ray. Moist sits not far away, dripping onto the floor, awaiting the unveiling of the next heist-plan. Both eagerly await word from the Evil League of Evil. Perhaps, this year, maybe, they’ll get in.
A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.

[image] [image] [image]

CAPT. HAMMER

Captain Hammer and The Hero’s Guild are busy at work watching the net, the paper, the radio, anything that can give them a clue as to where the Evil League of Evil will strike next. The League and the villains aspiring to enter are keeping the Heroes on their toes, not that they needed to be told.
The day needs my saving expertise!

[image] [image] [image]

PENNY

On the way to the Coin Laundry a girl with copper-bright hair holds out a petition, wondering if anyone would be kind enough to sign it. Those devoid of powers or hyper inelegance like the civilians are stuck on the ground, at work, trying to avoid getting crushed by a gravity ray or caught in the cross fire between Hero and Villain. It’s not always easy; anyone could be just around the corner.
Will you lend a caring hand?

[image] [image] [image]
[image] [image] [image]

EVERYBODY ELSE

The League will not rest until they have taken over. The Guild will stop at nothing to bring them to justice. But there are those between. The Henchman’s Union is still bartering for Henchman Rights, claiming that “Every man can be a HenchMan” and other such nonsense that drives the media wild. Rising side-kicks apply for a spot in the Hero’s Book, trying to make their own mark on the world like their predecessors. And there are always the anti-hero. Law and order don’t matter to them, but they hate the idea of being tangled in the web the villains have woven themselves into. They don’t seek out trouble, they don’t go on heists. But they sure won’t help stem the chaos
How the world’s filled with filth and lies.

Kormada: We're still kickin'!

In the wake of the flood, only devastation has been left behind. The waters have receded back into the oceans for now, but they will return. Omicron's decent toward the equine planet is quickening and steepening. It is only a matter of time now.

The Kormadians had long known what awaited them following the asteroid's strike on Omicron so many years ago, but the even had been put out of mind following all the other disturbances that had come after. Unfortunately, the equines were unaware that those disturbances were all in part due to the changed orbit of their once beautiful moon.

Tides will swell as Kormada's gravitational field is disrupted by what's left of Omicron's, flooding the lands on a seasonal basis until the torn rock at last collides with its keeper, obliterating virtually every individual being from the face of the soggy earth. In the meantime, temperatures will be inconsistent as Omicron's atmosphere punches through that of Kormada's, opening the gates for dangerous rays emanating from Prime, and allowing the heat to escape. While Kormada's global temperature will lower by several degrees Fahrenheit, most inhabitants won't feel the difference until several more years have passed, and the atmosphere is almost completely dissipated. In the sky, a shadowy mass takes up most of the horizon, the scene magnetic to the eyes of those living below. The combined rotations of the mother planet and its child have produced a series of howling winds, strong enough to tear trees and boulders from their places on the ground. Every so often a voice can be heard among them, the voice of one lost to the fury of the forces of nature.

Now, the Kormadians must find a way to save their dying home world, or face extinction in the aftermath of a universe spun out of control, for in the shadow of the approaching moon, no one is truly safe.

Neclymoure

This is Neclymoure. It's a huge dome filled with people who didn't follow the system. We dared to ask questions, we shouted on the streets, and we thought forbidden thoughts. And now we're all together, in our little town, living like we were born two hundred years ago. We're developing into more than just a pit for people who don't fit into society, though. Won't you join us?

He softly kissed the corner of her lips after Katie's initial kiss, and shook his head. "Well, in that case, thank you. I think we kind of rescued each other, 'cause I would never have come to this without you." There was a moment of profound happiness after having admitted that.

--Barely a moment went by after the sudden assault before the drunken anthro's face collided dead-on with Tim Sundin's fist. He grabbed the anthro by the forearm and pressed hard on a pressure point, yanking swiftly to allow Katie enough room to wriggle through and escape.

"Back off, Buddy," he spat, and swiftly searched through his coat pockets for the stunning gun he'd taken back when he and Katie had been trapped in the holding cells. The handy thing about the stunning gun is that it looked very much a real gun, and he clicked it convincingly just to drive home the point. Since there was no use explaining anything to someone when he was stone drunk, he refrained from reasoning with the guy.

"This is what you get for trying to get funded by the mafia," he muttered to Katie, just so she could hear. "And careful. . . I have no idea what this guy's about to do." He knew enough about anatomy to see him through up to a certain point, but this guy was huge and while Sundin wasn't puny, he couldn't compete with a gigantic anthro.

He was trying not to make too big a scene of it so as not to ruin the business deal, so he spoke as lowly as possible and tried not to have the stunning gun directly in view. "I don't care how smashed you are, Dude. Just be on your way like she kindly asked you to, and we won't have any more problems."

Notes:: of course! that's perfectly fine.

Katie kept sipping her drink. What she planned to do was just forget about everything and pretend that life was NORMAL. She saw Sundin coming over and immediately kissed him, “Thanks for everything, Tim. Really, I mean it” She said, sincerely, “I wouldn’t have made it out with out you.” She slipped her hand in to his for a few moments before letting go and beginning to dance, careful not to spill her drink.

A few minutes when by and Katie downed the last of her drink and set it on a passing waiter’s tray, “Thanks!” she called at his retreating back and turned back to dancing. She felt a hand rest on her hip, and she turned expecting it to be Tim or maybe Evan but instead it was some random, very drunk anthro.

heeey prrretty gurl you-wanna… uh, wut wuzz Ah sayin’? the hulking beast slurred in Katie’s face.

“Um, I think you were just… leaving sweetie…” Katie said slowly and gently pushed him away.

oooooh, wuz ah? Ah- dun remebah. He said dumbly and cocked his head to the side, Think ta come a it… he said Ah dunt think ah wus… Ur lyin’ prrretty girl He said, leaning in closer.

“No, really you were leaving, sweetie, run a long to your friends…”

No The anthro spat and put his grubby paws back onto Katie’s hips Ah Ain’t Runnin’ no where He hissed, his alcohol doused breath washing over Katie in a nauseating wave.

“Seriously, Let me go, HEY! Ow! Cut it out!” Katie squealed and went to wriggle out of the Anthro’s grasp.

((THE FOLLOWING INAPPROPRIATE CONVERSATION: Is between Sedlacek and Lotzen. As you can see, it would have been way too cluttery to split this into separate character posts, so I'm putting this all in under Sedlacek since I play both characters.))

"That chick was getting waaaay to comfortable with me."

Sedlacek sat down close to Lotzen. Something had unnerved him-- and there was precious little in the world to do that. He considered himself to be fairly fearless, save for one tiny part of life: sex and relationships.

It wasn't that he was afraid, per se. He would never in a million years have admitted to being afraid anyway. It was just that . . . he felt better when sexuality wasn't around. He'd never felt attraction. Never had a crush. Never wished for anyone's company. He'd never looked twice at anyone-- unless that person had something he wanted, like money or power. He didn't understand what was suppose to be drawing about anatomy--wasn't interested in the least in being around it, male or female. The bodies were pretty-- might have been nice to admire: like a painting or a beautiful statue; but not for him. To him, it was all stock flesh cut-outs. All the parts had names and purposes; but, what was so special about them? There was nothing at all to "turn him on" in life. He didn't like the sounds of it all anyway and made sure to stay clear.

The one time he'd given into someone's whim and allowed himself to be dry humped, he got bored and ended up shoving her out of the way, and he kept asking in a flat and ungiving tone, "Are you done yet?" His eyes kept wandering away, and he started to think of all the other things he could be doing.

Now, he was tapping away at an open cell phone, putting down numbers.

"I don't know. I just--" He gave a little shudder despite himself, exaggerating it and grinning for comedic value. "--I just don't like people touching me. It's weird." And he had this strange feeling creeping up his spine that made him shudder again and then quickly fled. He couldn't quite explain why he was so flustered. "Yeah, believe it or not, Chickie," --this said while he was thumbing through messages on a cell phone-- "I'm not interested in touching your butt. Or your breasts. Or his . . . thing. You're really not all that."

Lotzen spoke. "Did it bother you at the table?"

"Hm?"

"That Mazer guy. He kept touching your knee. . . your hands. Did it make you uncomfortable?"

"That's a little different. He's offering us money. Lots of money. He's offering to sponsor the lab so we don't have to check in with the colonies anymore. No more paperwork. No more nonsense. . . . Heh. I'd go to bed with him for that."

Lotzen looked at him with the kind of vague seriousness Sedlacek had to laugh at. "Would you really?"

"Yes," he said, and clicked the phone shut. "Yes, I would. If it would seal the deal. I don't have to like it to do it. You don't have to like anything that's being done to you."

Lotzen's eyes lingered on this image of Sedlacek for a long moment: the vague, empty smirk-- the hint of displeasure. He hung on those words too, and not because he liked the sound of them.

"I suppose you wouldn't, would you, Doctor?"

"Mm?"

"Wouldn't sleep with someone for money." His eyes turned to Lotzen now--turned and stayed there with a cool, interested glimmer in them.

Lotzen paused for a moment. "No. . . . I don't think I could."

"You're such a romantic."

"Mm?" Lotzen chuckled silently, as though it was absurd to think anything romantic left in him . . . but there was. "Not that I don't see . . . why . . . someone might. But, I couldn't, personally. No. I couldn't make love to anyone for whom I didn't feel just that-- love . . . --and didn't love me. I wouldn't want that. I couldn't . . ., wouldn't. Couldn't stand that."

"Something on your mind?" Sedlacek was watching Lotzen now. "Titan, right?"

Lotzen nodded.

"She left me no choice."

"I know."

Sedlacek grinned, and asked in a strange voice--an almost sarcastic, but nonetheless, oxymoronically truthful tone, "Are you angry with me?"

"No."

"You've got it bad for her."

"I don't know." Lotzen shrugged, holding back the flood of thoughts in his head. He felt so strangely. Felt so lost and mournful and alone. "But, there's no use hiding from her that I do care about her very much."

"Tell me about it."

A chill went through Lotzen's entire body at the words. He didn't know why. Sedlacek was the last person he shouldn't revealed anything personal to-- he knew that. But, there was no one else. No one. And those cold, chameleon eyes . . . they lied so well. Lied so well, it was hard to look at, even though he knew they were lying to his very core.

He spoke anyway. "I don't know where I stand. It doesn't matter. . . . I'm old. She'll find a life for herself. Drift away. And I love her so much, I don't even care. I just want it for her-- whatever she wants. Am I . . . in love? I don't know. Couldn't begin to say. Probably--not. Maybe. Probably not.
It's not my place. Not my lot to be in love. I hope not. I . . . I hope not." His voice started to crack, break up here-- he tried not to look at Sedlacek, but he did anyway, and he was so taken aback--almost fooled again--by the understanding little smile, the perfectly appropriate nods of Sedlacek's head. "I hope I'm not."

"What if she's in love with you?"

"No. . . ."

"Why not?"

Lotzen laughed.

Sedlacek looked off. "Humans peak in their forties and fifties."

Lotzen laughed again. Nervously.

"You're not very kind to yourself, you know."

A long moment of silence. They both watched the dancers, the club life. Lotzen laughed. "I feel so out of place."

"Pssh. Yeah. Snow White and the asexual. What a pair."

"Sometimes . . ." Lotzen paused, as if he wasn't sure-- really sure-- he wanted to say what he was about to say; but, he said it anyway. "I wish I was like that."

"Like what?"

"I wish I could just make out and forget. Just . . . throw myself away for one night and not know any pain." Another dancer passed by and Lotzen, again, laughed. "Oh, goodness, I must look absolutely ridiculous in here!"

"That can be remedied. We can always get up and dance. Shake around. Get on the pole. We could tape our own 'Scientists Gone Wild' video and sell it on the internet."

Lotzen cracked up despite himself.

"I'd be game for that." Sedlacek turned to Lotzen again, and this time his gaze was piercing. Lotzen nearly fainted when he realized Sedlacek was truly offering. "Come on. I'm serious. You wanna' see what it's like? You can practice on me."

Sedlacek extended his hand. "I'll be your alcohol. You can be just like me and I'll let you use me all night. You're not like me--I don't need it. You've never gotten to touch Titan or anything--you must be dying to touch somebody, right? Hey. I'm. Just. Some. Body. Come on. You can be just like me."

"No--no--no--I--I couldn't. I-- couldn't. I--can't."

A waitress passed by with a tray full of drinks. Sedlacek took a martini off of the tray and stopped the girl, slipped a few dollars into his pockets and asked to borrow her make-up compacts. The girl complied because she was amused.

"Here, I'll try to make it a little more appealing for you." Sedlacek foisted the drink towards Lotzen. "Drink this."

Sundin grabbed a rum runner as it floated by a tray. He passed by Evan and gave him a friendly jab at the shoulder as he passed by to join Katie in a dance. "You bet I do!" he sliiiiiiiiid himself across the dance floor and moved in compliment to Katie. He has already been dancing for several minutes when he turned back to Evan and grinned. "Hey, man, wanna' join in?"

At the risk of seriously offending the guy, Sundin was determined to try to make a friend out of Evan. It wasn't like it looked hard to be friends with the guy. He seemed nice. Now he had but to try to endear himself to the "pack," starting with the cute guy. Whoops! He'd let that thought slip.

Katie nodded at Shanks, “I know, Evan is my favorite,” Katie agreed
“I did not know the plan, however I do now.” She said cheerily and turned towards the building, “Let’s go Ladies” Katie grinned over her shoulder and danced her way towards the “Club” “is that Daft Punk I hear?” She muttered to her self as she slipped inside the door.

It took a moment for Katie’s eyes to adjust to the dark, Strobe-lit room. But once they did a grin spread across Katie’s face, “Ooooh! It’s a party!” She turned to Time and Evan, “Do you know how long it’s been since I partied? Answer: Waaaay to Fuckin’ long! Tim, I’ll go drop Jenny off in the infirmary, then come back out and meet you and the rest of them” Katie said, gently cradled Jenny in her arms and turned toward where she assumed the wounded would be cared for.

She returned after about ten minutes and found the group near the bar. She smiled at the Catcalls and good-humouredly blew her admirers a few kisses. But when a canine anthro got a little too close it only took a withering look for him to back off.

When she reached Tim and Evan she looked up at them and asked, “Do you think I’ll get carded here?” After a second she shrugged, “Whatever, I’ll try for a guy bartender, and hope her ‘forgets’ to card me” She said and ordered two shots of Vodka and a Diet coke. While she waited for her drinks she turned to Tim with a wistful smile, “You know what?” Katie said ruefully, “We forgot our coke at the Lab. Too bad to, because I could have used a coke on the ride here.”

When her drink came she thanked the male bartender, poured both shots into her coke and took a greedy gulp. “Life’s good, guys” she said and held her drink up to the group in a toast.

“Anyone want to dance?” she asked smiling at Evan, Tim and Shanks, “Because I know I do, c’mon, anyone? This is my favorite Daft Punk Song!” Katie said and began dancing her way towards the floor with her Coke/Vodka in her hand, singing along with “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” By Daft Punk. As she passed people she smiled and paused to chat briefly with anyone who smiled at her.

"Nice to meet you, Evan." He tried not to sound too aloof without sounding like 'everything was all right.' There was no way to tell what Evan might be thinking. Geez. Sundin could only guess! He stayed appropriately out of the way and listened to what Katie and Shanks had to say--and he thanked his lucky stars for the two of them. Without them there to make sense of the awkward atmosphere, he'd've been sunk. When it was time to go in, he followed along pleasantly.

The procession entered with Mazer and his right-hand people in the lead, Sedlacek directly after, Lotzen following behind, and the rest of the scientist and experiments following after under close guard. The experiments were to be taken to designated areas in the back where they could sleep and be watched. The scientists were to disperse into make-shift dormitories, unnervingly close to Mazer's gang. It was a strange blend indeed: a business "sleep-over" involving a legion of scientists and a mafia.

Inside was like a rave club. Lights flashed. Music boomed. There were people dancing and laughing and playing card games at and around every table, and many more haunting the floors. There were light dancers and pole dancers and people dripping in and out of chairs. The whole place was a sleazy mosh pit of Mazer's design, and the scientists could only guess how and why he'd managed to set-up this replica of his "pad" back in California so quickly.

Sedlacek walked by with his run-way strut, keeping his eyes from straying too much and mentally removing himself from the situation. Although he had long turned on the charm, it was obvious, somehow, that this particular scene was making him ever-so-slightly. . . nervous? He didn't turn to the voices wooting and howling at the laboratory people filing in.

"Hey, MISTAH HOLLYWOOD!" Someone shouted this from one of the poles. Sedlacek realized it was directed at him, but tried to ignore it. At least . . . he didn't look over.

The nickname spread like wildfire. Others started chiming in just the same way: "MR. HOLLYWOOD!"; "HEY, MISTAH!"; "YEAH~! HOLLYWOOD!";"Hey, Mistah Hollywood, come on over this way!"; "Hey, HOLLYWOOD, I'll be your biggest fan!"

When they caught sight of Katie, someone else shouted: "WHOO! It's MISS Hollywood!"

"YEAH!"; "HEY, BABEH!"; "HEY, MISS HOLLYWOOD, THEY MUST HAVE GIVEN YOU A TRIPLE-SHOT OF BEAUTIFUL IN THAT LAB!"

This statement was followed by a commotion of hoots and calls. Mazer 'tsk'ed and gave them a disparaging look, motioning Sedlacek and Lotzen towards a table. "They're loud," he said, "but they don't bite. And order up. Everything you see here is free." He added a dark, twisted grin. "Everything." At just that moment, a smiling mouse-woman glided by their table, touching the back of Lotzen's chair and giving a coy bite of her lip. It was obvious that if one just mingled enough, there were plenty of "admirers" to go around. A particularly persistent buzzard anthro kept making eyes at Katie and cat-calling, until Sundin eventually rolled his eyes and bit back:

"SHE'S TOO GOOD FOR YOU, BUZZARD!"

"Whozzat?"

"MR. BILL BACK-OFF's, the name; a.k.a. Mr. KICK-YOU-IN-THE-FACE if you don't stop being annoying!"

"I'll fight ya' for her!"

"She's not property, Jackass!"

"Aw! Be a sport! Whadaya say, Hollywood? Wanna' find out who's the strongest in the room? Huh? Huh?"

By this time, both Tim and the buzzard were joking, and though Tim hollered back, "Shut up, you jerk!" there was a light grin stretched across his face. "I'm sorry you had to hear that tom-foolery," he told Katie and Evan. "This poor, deluded man is under the impression he can beat human ingenuity. He's is, of course sadly wrong as Evan and I can take him any day, any place. Isn't that right, Evan?"

The buzzard could be heard calling faintly in the background: "I try! I try!"

Shanks was quite eager to step in and give Katie a ridiculously large grin. "Hey~! Hey~! Hey~!" He made a motion as if tipping his hat and gave her a little bow. "Shanks at your service, Miss. Nice to meetcha'!" The grin--the sharp, flashing wolf's teeth just got brighter. "You've got one helluva' pal here. He hasn't been with us for too long, but we all love Evan. Give him a couple days and he's one of the guys! Hey, when we get back to the U.S., you'll keep in touch, right? Right? Ever thought about making a career with us, Evan? Huh? HUH? That'd be pretty SWEET. Come on. Think about it?"

He gave Evan a gentle, friendly little nudge on the shoulder and went about shaking Tim's hand and nodding his 'hello's in proper greeting.

"You guys know the deal, right? We're staying on the island for a night er' two 'fore we head back to Califor-nye-aye! Not that I want to break up the party, but Mazer's--errr"-- this to Katie--"he's my boss-- Mazer is. He's saying we oughtta' get inside. Crazies running loose."

This part was to both Katie and Sundin. "You guys know anything about that? --Oh, well, we can talk more on the way in. Let's go, eh?"

Katie beamed at both Evan and Tim, “This is just peachy!” Katie said cheerfully and patted Evan friendlily on the chest, “Just calm down Evan, you’ll get to be buds!” she added confidently, noticing Evan’s icy manner.

“This is the Lab, or well the people who were in the lab. The lab is… broken now.” Katie explained oddly merrily, like she was trying to make up for every one else’s unease, which she was. “Who is this Shanks guy?” Katie asked, looking curiously over at Shanks, “Oh my, he certainly is large, huh, Evan.” Katie said, almost babbling in her eagerness for everybody to just get along.

When Evan was having his “moment” Katie just smiled placidly. “Evan, there’s nothing to worry about. I’m going home, and Tim’s coming with me.” She paused and put her hands on Evan’s shoulders. “You sure do worry a lot sweetie” Katie added playfully

Evan’s brown eyes traveled quickly up and down Sundin, looking him over subconsciously.

“Evan.” He stated simply, a small smile in place, as he went to offer his hand he remembered that Sundin was carrying the girl, and shoved his free hand in to his pocket. After an awkward moment Evan looked down at Katie, “I’ve been looking all over for you, I ran into shanks here”, Evan said pointing over at Shanks, “and he thought you might be here, so here we are.” Evan paused, looked at Sundin, then shifted his gaze back down to Katie, “Speaking of which, where is here?”

At Sundin’s suggestion of going inside Evan looked up, alarmed, “Why in the world would we do that?” He asked, his brow furrowed, “Katie’s not going back there.” Evan stated, his arm tightening around Katie’s shoulders. He had not come this far just to lose his best friend again.

After a moment a look of horror came onto Evan’s face and he looked down into Katie’s face, “Wait, Katie… you don’t want to stay, right?” Evan gasped, horrified by the idea. He moved so he was directly in front of her, with his hands on her shoulder, “Please tell me your coming with me… your friends and family miss you!” Evan pleaded

"It's all right." Sundin stepped better into view with Jenny in his arms, and shrugged off Evan's defensive way. "I come in peace. I'm Tim. A friend." In all honesty, when he'd first realized that Katie and Evan knew each other, his heart had picked up a nervous pace or two. He half expected a mob of her friends and family was going to appear over the horizon and descend upon him with torches and pitchforks.

It wasn't that he wanted to come off as rude--and he couldn't help but feel touched, surprised as he was-- no, shocked-- to find one of Katie's friends--at the sight of their reunion. Nevertheless, it was an awkward position to be in, as both Katie and he had anticipated. He didn't quite know what to do with himself, so he just readjusted his hold on Jenny, gently and unimposing.

He left it at that. No sense trying to force himself on anyone, or take an aggressive stance. He tried to lay low and stay out of the way while the two went about their greetings. What a weird coincidence! Of course, this was Katie. No telling how many friends and acquaintances she had and where. There was something about Katie. . . . There really was. He didn't think about it too much, or try to question who Evan was or where he'd come from.

"It looks like they're letting people into the shelter," he said, after a moment, when things had a chance to settle down a bit and Sedlacek and Mazer were ushering people in. "Maybe we'd better move this inside." There were still crazy radicals running loose outside, after all, and no telling what or who else. He seriously wondered whether Evan was about to lunge at him or not. Not that he wanted to use Jenny as a shield--oh,no-- but maybe this guy would lay off if he saw that Sundin was toting the wounded: See? Don't hit me. I'm holding a hurt girl. It was a horrible thought that he wasn't really sincere about--and if anything were to go down, he would have thrown himself over Jenny rather than get her more hurt; but, if it worked for him, just this once. . . .

When Evan looked around he saw a flash of blond hair, immediately he perked up and watched the flicker of yellow closer, Katie? he thought, his heart beating fast, when he was sure it was her He ran as fast as he could to meet her, “Katie!” Evan bellowed gleefully and hoisted Katie into his arms, “Where the hell’ve you been Caitlin Murone?!” Evan asked, and gave her a gentle squeeze, “Oh my god Katie, I’ve missed you!”

After a while Evan set Katie lightly back on the ground, but he kept an arm around her, he was afraid that if he let go, she would again get swept away. “What is this place Katie?” Evan asked quietly, looking around at all the people and anthros, some on leashes or in cages.

Evan looked over at the guy that had helped Katie out, “Who’s that?” Evan growled, his shoulders tensing, as if he was readying himself for a fight.

Katie smiled absently at Sundin, occasionally laughing at the appropriate times. When he talked about her dad Katie’s brow furrowed. Time was, of course right. Even Katie’s friends might never quite trust Sundin… She sighed and laid a comforting hand on Tim’s arm, “You know what?” she said bravely. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it” she gave Tim’s arm one final pat as the truck opened its rusty doors and she stood up.

She hopped out of the truck, stretched, and looked around… and then she saw him. At first she didn’t believe her eyes, why would Evan be here? But as she looked harder she was sure it was Evan, it had to be!

“EVAN!” Katie squealed and took off towards him, beaming. “Evan! What are you doing here? Oh my god EVAN!” She said when she met him in the middle and wrapped her arms around him. Evan picked her up, hugging her and Katie smiled, tears of joy occasionally running down her cheeks, “Evan, Evan, Evan” She repeated over and over again, grinning stupidly. “Evan, you don’t know how much I missed you!” Katie gushed and leaned down to kiss Evan on the cheek.

"Heh!" Shanks grinned and looked pleased at the 'she'd like you.' "Aw, sure you are! She'll be there. I know she will. I've got this feeling in my bones!" He clutched the edge of a tree stalk like railing and peered out eagerly as the ferry docked and the trucks were unloaded, peeking all around as if to spot her, although he had no idea what to look for other than he vaguely remembered Evan saying she was blond and about 5'6.

"Ooh! Ooh! Wait-wait! I see somebody! Maybe that's her! Is that-- Oh, wait. Sorry. Too short. Not blond. . . . Wait, I don't even think that's a girl. Yeah, that's a man, Shanks. What are you thinking? Sorry. Got over-excited."

He calmed down at this point and just kept a watchful eye out. He truly was eager to spot Katie, if there was any feasible way he could. Evan was such a good guy. Shanks wanted to give his story a happy ending.

"Ooh. Hey. Who's Mr. RUNWAY!" Shanks leaned half-way off of his nook to better see the first figure strutting over the docks. The figure he referred to was, in fact, Sedlacek, who walked towards Mazer as the picture of grace and refinement. He was lithe and strided-- well over six feet tall with a walk that did indeed resemble a model gliding down the runway. When he was close enough to Mazer, Sedlacek extended a firm and welcoming handshake and gave the anthro a winning, presidential smile. "Hey, I live in the Hollywood state and don't see swaggers like that too often. Thought this was suppose to be a truck full of geeky scientists."

And then he managed to catch sight of Katie, the only figure who managed to re-direct his fascination away from Sedlacek. "Hey, look at her! Wow, this lab knows how to make 'em."He was so caught up in his people watching that, despite his previous fixation, it didn't even occur to him that this could be the Katie he was looking for.

He shook his head and laughed at her car comment, poking fun at himself by adding, "I'm nervous, Can you tell?" And, here, he let out his own sigh. "You're gonna' hear a lot of questions and comments like that from me until things come down. Are you comfy? Is the sky blue? . . . It's my way of keeping watch." A pause. "I can't get my mind off the lab. Not because I miss it." He laughed at the notion, hoping he'd kept that down enough that no one who'd rat him out would hear. "There are so many people in that damned place. So. Many. People. And it's weird . . . here we are separated from all the security measures and I feel like we're the lucky ones."

He listened to her. "Tell on you?" And grinned. "Honey, I'm one of the instigators. Just as soon as we can, we're gonna' bolt and there's nothing they can do about it." --After this, he took a moment to reflect on the question he hadn't had time to answer. He brought it back up--back up because he couldn't just let it go like that. . . . His face took on a soft, incredulous look, and a smirk tugged at his lips. "Come with you?" Another brief pause. "You'd really want me to come with you?"

He started to fumble for a cigarette, but there was nothing in his pocket, so his hand just flailed awkwardly until he smoothed down his pocket and laid his palm to rest on his knee. "I wonder how your folks would feel about that. Kidnapped. And, then, one day you're randomly back and 'Hey, Dad. This is one of the mad scientist who held me hostage. He wants to come stay in our town. . . . ' He'd kick me in the nuts and string me up in the town square. . . .'least he should. I'd kick me in the nuts. Holding my daughter prisoner. . . . Hell, I'd string me up and throw rocks at my head just for good measure."

A slightly longer silence, and then . . . "Anyway, the answer's 'yes.' "

The truck rolled to a stop and he hopped up almost in sync with it. The doors opened. Time to get out. He reached down in order to carefully lift Jenny. "Ready to make our grand entrance?" This was, of course, in jest. But, it didn't really matter what lay in wait for them. He was going to get Katie and Jenny away from all the shenanigans no matter who it was they were staying with.

As soon as they were able to leave the musky old truck--he carried Jenny and helped Katie down first-- and step out into the fresh air, he heaved a crisp breath and cracked his neck. "Oh, YES." He peered out over the platform at the brush, where Mazer and his crew stood--Sedlacek, Mazer, Shanks, Fleagle. . . and Evan. Naturally, the name or the face meant nothing to Sundin, but, nevertheless, they were all in plain sight.

Evan stared of into space, his eyes glazed over and his face smushed comically against the glass of the car he was leaning on. When Shanks came bounding up Evan jumped and snapped to attention.

“What?” Evan said then seeing it was Shanks, Evan relaxed and smiled “Yeah, Shanks, I hope she’s on there… I really miss her, I think you’d like her. She’d like you”, Evan said, rubbing his eyes sleepily, “And I would like to think I’m gunna give her a hug!”

He looked at the Ferries with a wistful look on his face, I hope she’s on there… Evan thought and ran a hand though his hair.

Katie leaned forward in her seat next to Tim and rested her chin in her hands. She yawned turned to look at Tim with a faint smile playing at her lips, not enough of a smile to make her look cheerful but she didn’t look as if the world was ending. Now she thought about it, for all she knew the world WAS ending. She shook her head and looked at her feet.

“I’m fine…” Katie said with a shrug, “I’ve ridden in cars before Tim” she chuckled, glancing at him with one eyebrow raised. She looked over at Jenny like she had been doing every five minutes since they got on this god-damned truck. Suddenly she sat up and slapped her hands down on her thighs decisively.

“We have to get out of here” She said with a sigh, “I’ve been pretty lazy about trying to find a away out of this… But, this is… well I guess this is it!” she whispered, leaning on his arm, “Will you come with me?” She asked, then before he could answer she pulled away and stared at him, “Now, don’t you go tellin’ on me!” She hissed quietly and patted his arm, “promise you won’t tell!” she said, clutching at his arm like a dumb sixth grader begging her friend not to tell her secret to the rest of the class.

"Hey~hey~hey, look! They're comin'! They're comin'! See? Yaa? I told you we'd get to 'em." Shanks grinned excitedly over the horizon at the ferry with the trucks on it and nudged Evan's shoulder eagerly, grinning wide at him so as to inspire a smile-- or at least some kind of favorable "it's going to be all right" reaction in Evan. It'd been a long trip over sure. Poor kid'd been a great sport: 'schroom hunting, leaving home, traveling miles on a private jet with all kinds of trouble-prone gangsters. Evan was such a good boy too. Shanks had to give Evan major kudos: for the good kid, he sure did have a lot of guts when it came to looking out for his friends. He'd do anything: anything-- and Shanks had come to respect Evan as a fun friend.

"Maybe your girl's on one of those trucks, ay? Are ya' gonna' give her a hug? A great big hug!"

Fleagle stood nearby and shook his head at Shanks in an endeared sort of way. He, too, felt bad for poor Evan-- having to come all this way-- but he'd been enjoying having such a nice young man in their midst. He waited patiently for the ferry to pull up and begin to dock. Finally, a limousine pulled into view and stopped almost as soon as the ferry.

The iguana chauffeurs opened the doors. Out stepped a pristine black dress shoe what's finished gave a glassy gleam in the light. The leg was huge--covered by an impeccably creased grey pin-stripe pants leg. Mazer emerged.

Mazer was a towering and formidable figure. His appearance was very much like a giant, two-legged black wolf, but he had other, stranger features. He appeared, in fact, to also be part seahorse. There were several fin-like protrusions on his body as well as spiny parts. He approached his gang stoically, flashing a fang at Evan approvingly as he passed. So far, Mazer had only made a couple of appearances and hadn't said a word to Evan-- but, their re pore, as far as Mazer was concerned, seemed to be excellent.

Mazer stood nearby the docks and waited until the first of the trucks was unloaded. He looked for the man he was set to meet: a Brian Sedlacek.

 Victims of Circumstance
« Result #26 on Apr 11, 2009, 2:06am »

The evacuation process hadn't been easy: lock-down had taken most of the laboratory--its scientists and experiments down deep below where they couldn't be tracked or reached-- but all that remained for sector four--the sector that had lost power and had been cut-off-- was a procession of twelve high-security loading trucks surrounded by bars and locks that escorted the stranded experiments and scientists--Katie, Lily, Jenny, Lotzen, Sundin, and Sedlacek to a far-off emergency meeting room. It was close to the island--accessible by the truck rides coupled with a ferry trip, and came equipped with its own bars and locks and unassuming fronts. All during the trip over, Sedlacek had been on the phone with somebody--sounded as if he had been discussing deals with them somebody for a long while-- and it sounded as though they were going to meet him and the evacuees at their new location.

All Sundin wanted to do was hold on tight to Katie the whole trip over.

He couldn't have cared less about the goings on. Besides Katie and Jenny, the only other person on his mind was Danny, and even thought of Danny had to take the sidelines in comparison to Katie and Jenny. They still hadn't heard anything from Danny. Who knows what sector he was in. Who knows what he was doing. The only thing he could be certain of was that Danny almost certainly was not thinking of him in return. Danny'd probably found some new orderly to beat up-- or some chick to curl up with. The last thing he was probably thinking about was: Gee, I wonder how Tim's getting along?

It was all so crazy.

Even though he'd looked distant for a long while, he was able to snap gradually out of it upon turning to Katie. He leaned against the side of the truck, feeling its sways and bumps, and keeping hand on Jenny so it wouldn't sway and bump her as much as it did him.

"Doin' okay?" he asked Katie. "It's kinda bumpy, I know, but it'll be over soon."

The trucks were on the ferry now, and the ferry was well on its way over to the alternative hideout. He peeked out of a window over what he could see of the glimmering waters. The sky looked dark and tumultuous.

Iz! This post was totally NOT overlooked--I just realized I didn't reply. I browsed through your gallery when you posted this up and thought your pictures were terrific. I didn't know you were so fabulously into photography/such a talented photographer! Great work. Plus, your passion for horses really shines through. I love it when photographers put so much of their interests into what they photograph.

"You?" he said, and a playful tone surfaced in direct response to her, "Oh, no, you don't just go biting into Katies. They're too cute and pretty. Like a cupcake." He grinned from ear-to-ear, holding her gently--even embracing her there, though he tried to match the daintiness of her sit, in a way, and not lock her there in some caging bear-hug. No. Everything had to be gentle. Delicate. Mindful. She brought that out in him without his even having to think about it. "But him, I'd bite," he whispered, shooting an inconspicuous foul gaze in Sedlacek's direction. "And not in a good way. Seriously, if he makes one wrong move. . . ." As if he hadn't made enough wrong moves already. A tinge of anger sent chills prickling up his spine when he thought of Sedlacek just biting into Katie's neck. What a psycho! That he couldn't even tell the difference between them: Katie bit Sedlacek out of fear and self-defense; Sedlacek was just doing to frighten her, and couldn't even understand her terror. It was a chilling comparison.

At her words, he turned back to her--looked right into her eyes. --Delicate. Delicate, soft, and gentle. That's what his arms were doing and, now, his eyes were doing it too. "I don't promise a lot of things. Mainly because I'm hardly ever sure of anything." He set a hand over hers and Jenny's ankle, as if putting full covering over them both. "But this time, I'll promise. You're gonna' make it out just fine. I don't think anything could get you down for long. And, no matter what, I'll get you out of here. I'll get you back to California with your folks. And Jenny. We'll take are of her too. First chance we get." And he said it again, "First chance we get." This time it was more to himself, as though he were already in the process of constructing a plan.

Sundin grimaced lightly at the situation. In a way, he wanted to get up and tend to the man himself just to see to it that Sedlacek didn't turn the tables and do something weird. But, at the same time, he wasn't dreaming of leaving Katie or Jenny--especially with her right here where he could see her and hold her and know she wasn't in any danger that he didn't already know about. So, he just watched Sedlacek, and whispered to Katie, "It'll be all right. He won't come over here. --You know, he was actually a nurse for a while. He could hold a steady job back then, so I think that orderly will be all right for now." Sedlacek was unpredictable, of course; and, lately, growing ever more so. But, Sundin had to hold on to some hope things wouldn't get more horrible just yet-- at least, not in this room. But, if anything came after Katie or Jenny, Sundin made a second promise to himself: the most horrible thing in the room would be him going for some psycho throats.

Hey, Everybody! I just wanted to let you all know that I might be absent or a while, by no choice of my own. My laptop is once again not recognizing its power cord and I have a very limited time before my battery dies, so I'm afraid I won't be here for long at all. As soon as I can get this sorted out, I'll be back on and posting. But, please excuse my absence. :) I look forward to getting back to it! Sorry about this. Thanks, Everyone!

Katie smiled and settled herself daintily in his lap, Katie turned her head to see Tim and chuckled, “A bite back, huh?” Katie shook her head with a short snort, “Only if you’re lucky” she teased and gave his knee a playful squeeze. She turned back the rest of the room, leaning back into Tim comfortably. She scanned the room, all seemed to be in order, he let her eyes drop back to Jenny… poor little Jenny-Jenny… Katie heaved and sighed and reached out to rest a protective hand on Jenny’s ankle. Jenny now belonged to Katie, it would take a lot for anyone to wrench Jenny from Katie. Katie had always been a passionate person; she was fiercely loyal and incredibly protective when it came to children or other helpless people or animals. She absent mindedly drummed her fingers lightly on Jenny, humming an old lullaby,

”Julie through the glass… born just a day ago, hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm-hmmmm she smiled, thinking of when her mom used to sing that to her… suddenly she frowned, would she ever get old enough to have children? She glanced around at the situation, it wasn’t looking to hopeful from where she was standing. She looked back at Tim, worry wrinkling her brow, “So, You promise I’m gunna make it out of here?” Katie asked dubiously, one eyebrow raised.

Somewhere to her side Katie heard something fall, she looked up to see the orderly fall, She jumped and gasped, “oh my god…” As blood began pouring out of his ears. When Sedlacek had tended to him and turned to Jenny, an unpleasant expression took over Katie’s normally pretty face, “Yeah the fuck right” She growled, her grip tightening on Jenny’s ankle, “You stay away you wacko” She hissed under her breath.

At the "thank you," he grinned, brightly and excitedly, though he subdued it enough so that stayed within the range of "charming" and didn't cross over into "psycho" . . . not yet, anyway. Smile? Check. Gift? Yes. Welcome? Check. She wasn't running away. He was satisfied enough. And since he'd made her something and she was satisfied, he assumed that now they were just the best of friends. Excellent!

When she looked up, his eyes were there to greet her, unflinching and still not staring, but scanning her expression for the tiniest details he could pick up. With somebody new, he always made eye contact--always. When he thought it had gone on long enough, he softly turned--softly, slowly-- and looked satisfied. He smirked, but he turned back and saw her grimacing attempt at a smile, he accorded her a smooth, full smile that looked for all the world as if it were genuine.

An orderly approached him and started talking about the condition of the labs. There was a brief exchange between them--something about the rest of the lab being secure under lock-down, except for the particular sector they were all sitting in being cut off due to a mechanical and electrical failure. Sedlacek managed the whole thing quite calmly and vaguely-- he already had a guess as to what was going on and what would ultimately have to be done about it, but he didn't yet give a definitive order or make a move. He just told the orderly to be on his way to activate whatever security was still operational in the particular sector.

He clutched his stomach--it was hurting, very much hurting. Then, he turned back to Lily. An orderly went to consult Dr. Lotzen, and came back to offer Dr. Sedlacek one of Lotzen's liquid-filled syringes. But, Sedlacek waved it off. "No," he said. "I feel better now." He grinned, almost pleasantly, and twisted his hand over the wound until he made himself moan out in pain. Then, all of a sudden, the orderly who'd been talking to him, just froze, went pale, and suddenly slumped over. He so happened to hit Sedlacek's lap, jarring the wound, which made Sedlacek flinch. At first, he shoved the man away like an offensive fallen textbook that had landed on an injured foot; but, then, he saw blood coming from the ears. Normally, he didn't give one wit about orderlies, but this one was one of the few they had left-- and they'd be needing him for the little jobs.

So, he hauled the man over his lap and started examining him, just as he had in the military when injured soldiers came in. He examined the bloodiness in the same way some people would investigate gum on the bottom of their shoe. But, he knew just how to prop the man up-- just how to handle him. He even lightly tapped at the man's cheek to get him to react, taking a tiny pen light from his pocket to shine in the man's eyes to make sure he was responsive--which he turned out to be.

"Does someone have a first aid kit?"

It took a few moments, but one of the doctors eventually appeared with one. Sedlacek didn't bother thanking the doctor. he just took the first aid kit, opened it up, and took out a few things to start treating the fallen orderly with. He quietly worked with the guy's head still on his lap like someone might work with a broken chair leg, humming a low tune to pass the time. Sometimes his position in administration made it all too easy to forget that he was once a full-time nurse. His personality, needless to say, didn't lend itself very well to it either. But, he was doing quite an efficient job--even a careful one.

When he had done all he could at the moment, he looked up, glanced around the room, and said, "Anyone else?" Which meant: 'Does anyone else need medical attention'? As if anyone wanted to trust him-- and he probably knew this, to some degree. As he said this, his eyes ended up shifting onto Jenny, and settled onto her. He gave Katie and Sundin a look next, as if to coax them into doing the "sensible" thing and bringing Jenny over to him for treatment. It would've come off as joke if he hadn't looked so completely and utterly . . . serious.

Shanks grinned with a sudden excitement and awe, watching the man slide down the tree, effortlessly, as though it were a safety mat. He tried to do it himself, but ended up having to hop down slowly from branch to branch. When he reached the bottom--just a little while after Murray, he shook out his hair like a frisky puppy. "Woah, man! That was cool. Teach me to do that sometime?"

"Hey~'ey~'ey~!" Shanks motioned toward the crowd of his peers and then to Murray. "Did'ja' hear? He's comin' with us! This is, uh, this is, uh. . . ." He looked over towards owl man and rolled his hands, as if looking for the right word. "What's your name, man? --This here's my posse! Posse, this is owl man. --Who's, ah--who's, ah--y'know, not actually an owl man. So, yeah. Yeah, yeah, we're all good. All good. Gonna' go get some spirits. That cool?"

Fleagle, who was still a little traumatized by the whole thing, nodded politely at Murray. "Hello . . . good to meet you."

"Yeah, so like--we're pretty much done here. All that's left's to wait for the vaaaan."

Conveniently, it wasn't too long before a shiny black limousine was on its way towards the field. Shanks nodded up to give it a look, and grinned. "That ain't no van. Or, er, uh--limousine, I guess. Anyway, yeah, that's our ride! Yeah?"

The limousine pulled up close to the jeep and stopped. Truth be told, even Shanks was surprised to see it. It had Mazer's emblem on it and Mazer didn't usually come out. But, he didn't disappoint: Mazer wasn't actually in the limousine, but rather, two iguana chauffeurs were, and they stepped out in unison to open the doors.

"Urgent update," said one of the iguanas. "Mazer would like to consult with you before our departure."

The other iguana went to the jeep to get it back to base so the others could take the limousine.

The first went on. "Harry'll take care of the jeep and the goods. The limo'll be quicker if we take the main highway."

Shanks grinned. "Well, everybody, hop in!"

"She'll be fine." Sundin made a motion towards Sedlacek, leaned in closer to Katie, and narrowed his eyes ever-so-slightly. "I've got my eye on that guy. I'm dead serious . . . if he makes any false moves. . . ." He arched his back a little--subtly--like a cat. Enough was enough. Everyone was scared to death. Lily was new. Katie had enough on her hands. There was the obviously injured Jenny to attend to. Now was not the time for Sedlacek's antics, and Sundin was a mere step away from challenging him if he tried anything.

To her question, he grinned softly (and happily, truth be told) and gently patted his knees to give her the go-ahead. "Don't you worry," he said. "No one's gonna' harm a hair on your head. Not on my watch." Never had he looked more bright or excited, but never had he been more serious. His arms were ready for her, if she wanted them, and everything about him was on a particularly alert standby. He was tired of being intimidated-- couldn't afford to be intimidated. He'd found something much too precious for all of that. After a moment, he softly laughed. " 'bout time I got my own bite back."

He gawked at Shanks through the binoculars the entire time, making notes to his audio recorder and being sure to pan his video recorder at the crowd below to look over later. Murray had always been a thorough investigator, but one of his biggest weaknesses had always been his obliviousness. That said, it was difficult even for Murray to ignore that Shanks was addressing him. After a few short remarks to his recorder about "chanting" and "spiritual connection," Murray dropped the binoculars for just a bit and stared at Shanks. All he'd really heard was "So, you comin'?" and then his brain went back and pieced together what he must has said. So, it hadn't been a forgotten language after all...

Murray grinned sheepishly, still elated to have the chance to interact with such an unusual mixture of anthros and humans. "Absolutely!" he said, clapping Shanks back on the shoulder excitedly. Without further ado, Murray packed his things with expert speed and ease and was sliding down the trunk as if on a playground. A huge grin plastered on his face, Murray mingled with the group and make short, positive exclamations about how wonderful it all was. He finally whirled around to look at Shanks, as if he was in a magnificent dream.

"So, what now?" he asked happily.

Lily had only barely heard Katie ask her if she was hurt. It was a sweet voice and an even sweeter question - which in Lily's current mental state - made it seem as far away as a dream about an hour after waking up. Besides, the tall man had approached her and her attention was entirely focused on this man who'd previously been screaming maniacally at the computer screen.

He was big, he was scary, and he was..being friendly towards her? Lily was terrified, but didn't feel like bolting. At the same time, she kind of did want to crawl up towards the ceiling. She didn't want to enrage him any further though. Sedlacek was guiding her well. If the one who was scariest to her right now was being nice to her, she wanted to prolong such treatment as long as possible. Addled as she was right now, she still decided to play along.

Lily jumped a little when the alarms suddenly stopped, wondering what would happen now. Was it over or was everything in the lab being broken piece by piece? Her eyes darted towards Sedlacek as he pulled the paper out. She wasn't quite sure what she'd been expecting, but a skillfully crafted origami flower certainly wasn't it.

"T-thank you.." Lily stammered as she accepted the gift.

She was shocked that he knew how to make something so pretty. She clutched it gently with both hands, like a small child might hold a cookie - making sure not to damage or crumple it. Her eyes were very wide and alert, although she certainly didn't feel very conscious. She knew she looked ridiculous. She was hopelessly pulled into herself right now and there didn't seem to be much she could do about it.

Her mind wandered to the swamps back home. How she longed to be there and away from all this. She very carefully tested a quick glance in Sedlacek's direction. He wasn't in her personal space; he was just sitting. He wasn't shoving a gift on her; just presenting one. He wasn't staring; just looking. She didn't like him, so much as she didn't mind him. It was better to have him calm than angry any day.

Very, very slowly, she raised her eyes smoothly - almost methodically - up to meet his gaze and gave him a little nod. She clutched her hands to her chest, still holding the paper flower. Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw Katie smile; genuine and free. She smiled back a little - almost un-noticeably - before darting her eyes back at Sedlacek. Unfortunately, the merchants were in charge and cooperation the currency.

She tried to smile a little at Sedlacek, but it may have come out a little bit more like a grimace. Lily was terror stricken and traumatized. As out of it as she was, her senses were very heightened right now. When she heard the vague murmur of "bite" and "her," her eyes got just a little bit wider. She focused again on the tall man, gave a smile another try, but then curled up into a defensive little slump.

Katie glanced to the side and saw Sedlacek moving towards her and Lily, when he was about a foot away Kate lost her nerve and skittered away from Lily with a nervous glance at Sedlacek. She hovered apprehensively a few feet away, worried for Lily. Katie glanced back a Sundin and decided she could watch Sedlacek just as well from the safety of Sundin’s side. With a quick apologetic smile at Lily Katie turned and rushed back to Sundin.

“What is wrong with that guy?” Katie muttered to herself and kneeled down infront of Sundin, “He’s not gunna… She’ll be fine, right?” Katie asked Sundin, motioning towards Sedlacek and Lily. Katie turned and looked at them. “Well,” she sighed as Sedlacek offered Lily the flower, “I hope he doesn’t bite her” Katie said with a small shake of her head. She slumped over to the side so her legs were folded neatly at her next to her and turned around to watched what was going on.

After a while the lights came on and Katie looked around at all the people, orderlies and such. One orderly had a bloody nose, Katie frowned grabbed a piece of gauze from a first aid kit close to her and hopped up to offer it to the man. The orderly took it causiously, he wasn’t used to interacting with anthros in the way and Katie turned around and went back to Sundin. When she reached Sundin, she paused and asked, “Is it okay if I sit on your lap? I’d feel sort of safer…” and she added with a weak smile, “I promise not to bite you.”
